    Biography
    After a long career in television journalism and documentary filming, Akçura started to teach and share his experiences on television journalism and video production at the Faculty of Communication, Ankara University in 2003. In 2007, he joined the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University. He is currently working at the same department as a Basic Photography, Video Production and Television Journalism instructor. He has been a jury member at Ankara Film festival and Association of Professional News Cameramen. He is the owner of Turkish Association of News Cameramen “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his contributions to the profession. He aims to convey his experiences as a cameraman who has worked under all kinds of circumstances from his practices in war-reporting to documentary and current affair programs on television so as to provide an insight for students into the real-life application of the profession.

    Biography
    Ahmet Gürata joined Bilkent University in 2007 and is currently acting chair of the Department of Communication and Design. He has published research on the history of Turkish cinema, cross-cultural reception, remakes and documentary in anthologies and journals. He serves on the editorial boards of sinecine: journal of film studies and Kebikeç. He has served on several film festival juries and is currently an advisor for Festival on Wheels. He is a member of Turkish Association of Documentary Filmmakers and Turkish Film Critics Association. Has won Turkish Academy of Sciences’ Honorable Mention Award for his translation of A Short Guide to Writing About Film (Timothy J.Corrigan) ın 2009.

    Levent Y. Ince joined Department of Communication and Design in 2014. He received his BFA and MFA degrees from Bilkent University, Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. He collaborates with Teknolab, a small network of coders, designers, architects, engineers and social scientists to research and develop ideas.

    Biography
    Colleen Kennedy Karpat joined the Department of Communication and Design in 2010. Her book Rogues, Romance, and Exoticism in French Cinema of the 1930s (2013) won the Northeast Modern Language Association Book Award. Other essays have appeared in the Directory of World Cinema: France (2013), The Films of Wes Anderson (2014), and the journal Adaptation (2015). Her primary research area is pre-WWII French cinema history and film culture; other interests include star studies and adaptation across narrative media. She has taught courses in COMD on film theory, film genres, and adaptation.

    Biography
    Fulten Larlar received her M.F.A., with honors on a Fulbright Scholarship. Her short film, “The Currycomb,” won the Eastman Kodak Best Screenplay Award. “Devrim Eskisehir,” the documentary Larlar co-directed/wrote/produced, inspired a feature length fiction film “Devrim Arabalari” and was included in its DVD release. She was Story Consultant for “Seeking the Sultan”, documentary finalist of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Student Oscars Northeast, and Associate Producer of the multi-award winning documentary “Waiting for Arif”. “Calling the Minstrel,” a short dance film she co-produced, was invited to screen at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics’ Cultural Olympiad. Larlar professionally reads screenplays for story analysis.

    Biography
    Ersan Ocak joined Department of Communication and Design in 2011. He is an independent filmmaker and researcher. He makes experimental and documentary films. His research areas are cultural studies, documentary cinema, video-art, and new media. He is one of the founder members of Association of Documentary Filmmakers in Turkey. In 2010, he founded Cinema Laboratory, which is a collaborative research and production platform on cinema. He also serves in the consultancy boards of several film festivals.

    Biography
    Kağan Olguntürk joined Bilkent University in 2002. He has been producing films and screening them on international film festivals. His films have been screened on national TV channels and on several occasions in Austria, USA, and UK. Also he has been writing articles about, editing, lighting and lenses. He has also served on several film festival juries.

    Biography
    Ufuk Önen produced and recorded more than 50 albums, EPs and singles; worked as a composer, engineer and sound designer in more than 200 Turkish, European and North American audio-visual projects, including films screened in international films festivals; and recorded and toured with Hazy Hill between 1988-2000.
    Önen wrote Audio Recording and Music Technologies(English title), the first reference book in Turkish language in the fields of audio recording and music technology, and published one other book and more than 40 articles.
    Önen holds B.A. in Linguistics and M.A. in Communication and Design, and is a graduate of Los Angeles Recording School. He is a member of Audio Engineering Society, Interactive Audio Special Interest Group, and International Association for the Study of Popular Music, and member of the steering committee of Audio Technologies for Music and Media conference. Currently, Önen teaches “Sound Design”, “Music and Media”, “Visual Communication Project” and “Digital Video Production” courses.

    Biography
    Emel Özdora Akşak started teaching full-time in the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University in September 2012, after working for UNICEF Turkey Country Office for three years. Her articles have been published in journals such as Turkish Studies and Public Relations Review. She is currently working on two reserach grants, one from TUBITAK and one from the Arthur Page Center for Ethics in Public Communications.

    Biography
    Andreas Treske is an Editor, Filmmaker, and Media Artist living in Turkey. He graduated from Munich Film Academy (Hochschule f. Fernsehen u. Film); professional experience and continuing activities as director and editor. From 1992 till 1998 creative art staff at HFF Munich with extensive research on applied aesthetics for cinema and TV. From 1998 – 2010 teaching at the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University, Ankara, film and video production, new media theory; chair of the department from 2005 till 2010. Between 2011-2014, he taught in the Film Option of the Media and Communication department of Izmir University of Economics in Izmir/Turkey, founding member of the department of Cinema and Digital Media in 2012. International exhibitions of interactive media works, various short films screened on international film festivals, his co-directed feature length documentary “Takim boyle tutulur” played in Autumn 2005 in more than 50 Turkish cinemas. In 2008 picture editor of the feature length cinema documentary “Mustafa”, directed by Can Dündar. He is the organizer of Video Vortex Ankara and head of steering committee of “Towards a deeper understanding of rural Europe”, Promotion of Civil Society Dialogue between EU and Turkey.

    Biography
    He produced TV dramas and documentaries as TV Producer in the earliest team of TRT that started first TV broadcasting in Turkey in 1968. He founded TRT’s Staff Training Centre, TRT-INT, Avrasya TV Channels, Sales and Coproductions Department and sold TRT’s TV productions to more than 50 countries at The International Film Markets in several years. He worked as Producer, Co-producer, Director, Teacher, Program Controller, Director of Cultural Programs Dept., Programme Manager, Head of TV Department and Acting Deputy General Manager of TRT in 25 years, until he retired in 1992. At the same time he was the Instructor of “Radio-TV Management” courses at Gazi, Ankara and Başkent Universities, and Senior Lecturer at The Staff Training Centre of TRT. In 1992, he became General Coordinator of The Alo Bilgi Group, changed than to The Koç Holding for the period 1993-1996 as the founding General Manager of EKO TV (Now CNN-Türk). He is fulI time Instructor of “Media Management” and “Careers in TV” Courses at the Faculty of Communication of İstanbul Bilgi University since 1998, and part time Instructor of “Media Industries” courses at Bilkent University. He won 13 prizes including “Sedat Simavi ” and “The Most Succesful Bureucrat of the Year”. He represented Turkey and TRT at EBU, ABU, Eureka Audiovisual and ESCC.

    Biography
    Başak Şenova is an art curator, writer and designer. She holds an MFA in graphic design and a PhD in art, design and architecture from Bilkent University, and is active internationally with art and technology related projects. She attended the Seventh Curatorial Training Programme of Stichting De Appel, Amsterdam in 2002. She has been writing on art, technology and media,initiating and developing projects and curating exhibitions since 1995.

    Şenova is the editor of art-ist 6, Kontrol Online Magazine and Lapses book series, UNCOVERED, Aftermath, Yane Calovski. Obje’ct and Scientific Inquiries among other publications. She is an editorial correspondent for ibraaz.org and Flash Art International and also one of the founding members of NOMAD, as well as the organizer of ctrl_alt_del and Upgrade!Istanbul.

    Şenova was the curator of the Pavilion of Turkey at the 53rd Venice Biennale. As an assistant professor, she lectured in various universities in Istanbul such as Kadir Has University, Bilgi University and Koç University. At the moment, she is lecturing at Bilkent University. Şenova has initiated projects and curated exhibitions in Turkey and abroad since 1996. Her curatorial projects include ctrl-alt-del sound art project series (since 2003), “NOMAD-TV.network 01”, “losing.ctrl”, “Serial Cases”, “under.ctrl”, “s-network”, “Rejection Episodes”, “Conscious in Coma”, “Unrecorded”, and “Aftermath”. Şenova curated Zorlu Center Collection for two years (2011–2012). She co-curated the UNCOVERED (Cyprus) and the 2nd Biennial of Contemporary Art, D-0 ARK Underground (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In 2014, she acted as the Art Gallery Chair of (ACM) SIGGRAPH 2014 (Vancouver) the curator of the Helsinki Photography Biennial 2014 and the Jerusalem Show. Recently, she was appointed as the curator of the Republic of Macedonia at the 56th Venice Biennale.
