Dolby Atmos Suite

Established in 2023, the Dolby Atmos Suite at the Bilkent University Department of Communication and Design is the first Dolby Atmos-certified academic audio infrastructure in Ankara. As a Dolby Creators Lab Academic Partner, the facility provides students and faculty with a 7.1.4 immersive audio monitoring environment equipped with Pro Tools Ultimate and Avid MTRX Studio. The suite supports comprehensive Dolby Atmos mixing workflows and rendering for immersive deliverables, including binaural and stereo fold-downs.

The suite is actively used for teaching and hands-on training, allowing students to learn professional immersive workflows in a real-world environment. It serves as a dedicated space for audio post-production in film and video, supporting sound editing, dialogue, effects, and final mixing. Additionally, the facility is utilized for Dolby Atmos music mixing intended for modern streaming platforms such as Apple Music and TIDAL, as well as producing immersive soundscapes tailored for spatial media art installations and exhibitions.

Beyond creative production, the suite operates as a vital hub for interdisciplinary scientific research. In collaboration with Bilkent’s Neuroscience community and ASBAM, the controlled 7.1.4 environment enables experimental studies on spatial hearing, perception, and cognition using immersive audio stimuli.
